Review by Kathy Parsons
Real Music has produced a three-CD Sacred Spa Music Series that consists of the most soothing and relaxing tracks from previously-released albums. “Wrapped in Stillness (A Pause in the Veil of Time)” includes pieces by Kevin Kern, Hilary Stagg (3 tracks), Paul Machlis, Gary Remal Malkin (2 tracks), 2002 (2 tracks), Frank Steiner, Jr., and Tim Wheater. In this case, I suppose that saying the album is a bit of a snooze would be a compliment, as that was the intention! At just under an hour, the CD is the perfect choice to accompany a nice, long massage or a soak in a hot tub or a very leisurely meal (you don’t need any wine when the music is this relaxing!). Of the three CDs in the series, I found this one to be a little too smooth to listen to actively. All of the music is gorgeous and works together well as a whole, but having it in the foreground, I found it a tiny bit bland. However, I believe the intention here was to create a collection that would provide a soothing and healing backdrop for quiet times, and, with that in mind, it really couldn’t be better. Very unobtrusive and calming, this CD is very successful in fulfilling that goal.
