Review by Kathy Parsons
Om Gaia: Songs of the Past, Present, and Future of the Earth is the debut release by Terri Liles Mason, a sacred music artist, spiritual coach, and a teacher of evolving consciousness. She is also one of the first people in the US to be trained in Reflection Process Therapy. Mason started singing and writing songs in 2006, after spending seventy-two hours chanting sacred mantras. She wrote her first song, “Ancient Mother, Beloved Children,” within days of that experience. This song appears on Om Gaia, which she recorded with Grammy-nominated producer, Paul Avgerinos, who also provides all of the instrumental accompaniment, male voices, and vocal harmony arrangements. The ten tracks are all vocals with rhythmic, trance-like instrumental accompaniment that has a mildly exotic flavor. Mason’s voice is hypnotic and earthy as she honors the magic of the sacred feminine. On her website (www.omgaiamusic.com), Mason provides meditations, the lyrics to her songs, and Goddess Messages to aid others in their own transformational journeys. Full of hope and positive energy, the music provides a very warm and uplifting experience for the listener.

Om Gaia opens with “Invocation,” a brief song to the Goddess. The title track is a 13 1/2 minute spiritual chant that commemorates the year 2012, when the Mayan calendar ends as does an age of mankind. It is believed that Mother Earth will complete one sacred journey and begin anew during that year. “Eleyakeha’s Lullaby” is the gentlest of lullabies and reminds us to connect with our childlike natures and to find a world where our childhood dreams come true. “Elixir of Love” celebrates the divine union of Gaia and her long-separated masculine self, bringing bliss to all. A slow and sensual love song, this is one of my favorites. I also really like “Begin Again,” which lovingly urges us to move forward into our unknown potential, remembering what brings us joy. Gentle and playful, it’s a warm invitation. “Beautiful Beings” concludes the journey with joy, hope, and encouragement set to a catchy melody.

Om Gaia is a very upbeat and spiritual musical experience that celebrates Mother Earth and all who inhabit it. It is available from omgaiamusic.com, amazon.com, cdbaby.com, and iTunes.
