The year 2016 was not a good year for the mortality of some of our favorite musical artists with the loss of many big names. The biggest impact for me came in the form of David Bowie, Keith Emerson and Maurice White. I am glad to announce that despite these tragic losses, 2016 was alive with many exceptional recordings.
In the past I have ranked my entire Favorites based on the year of release versus the year of review. In order to be consistent with the website it should be noted that top 5 are still ranked with the remaining balance being some of the top choices of 2016. Unfortunately I was unable to meet the 2016 deadline to review Lawrence Blatt and Lawson Rollins in time whose reviews are pending. That said,it was Paul Cardall’s utterly breathtaking "A New Creation" that took top honors with his most complete recording to date. With Seay and Philip Wesley also creating outstanding recordings the top three has never been so close.
With another solid year in impressive music as always I would like to thank the artists and the labels for willing to risk a critique and also spend part of their promotional budget by investing in a review. This will always be considered an honor and a privilege.
