Review by Michael Debbage
Let’s be honest that a band that is essentially tagged as a super-group is unlikely to endure very long. Well their debut was over 2 years ago and Afterglow, not including their cd/dvd live set earlier this year, actually represents their 3rd studio recording in less than 2 years. The pace is ridiculous and one would naturally assume that there would be diminishing returns in such prolific recordings. Not the case at all, as Afterglow is just as strong as their prior release Black Country Communion 2.

Unfortunately, the tabloids are indicating that all is not well in the BCC camp, with no indication that the album will receive any tour support, largely due to commitments for Joe Bonamassa to promote his own recently released solo album. With the voice and prime architect Glenn Hughes apparently at odds with the lack of touring it remains to be seen whether this will be the last recording from a line-up that has connections to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, UFO and indirectly Led Zeppelin, whose influences ooze through the music. If you enjoy any of the previously mentioned bands then enjoy this gritty classic blues rock sound machine while you can. Compelling and inspiring, BCC is clear evidence that when done right Classic Rock is never unfashionable but rather loud and proud and deserving to be saluted by flying in the face of trends.
