Symphonina No. 3 (Four Days in the Life of the Princess) is a fascinating new work composed and conducted by Dr. David Fogel, performed by The International Symphonina Orchestra and featuring pianist Sophia Agranovich in the third movement. The work consists of four movements - “Arrival,” “Longing,” “The Masquerade Ball,” and “Freedom” - and tells the story of a cartoon princess who longs for freedom and anonymity; but the orchestra also has a story. The Symphonina Orchestra was created by The Symphonina Foundation and David Fogel and provides opportunities for great young instrumentalists to record with established professionals at the highest levels. The orchestra is made up of about thirty instrumentalists from around the world who recorded their parts individually. David Fogel then did the audio engineering and mixing and Gary Gray did the mastering. The results are simply amazing, as it truly sounds like they are all playing in the same room or studio!
Movement 1: Arrival
In the first movement, the princess arrives at her castle along with the knights who protect her and the citizens who adore her - but she wants more. Lively and spirited, it’s a light-hearted start.
Movement 2: Longing
In this movement, the princess expresses her longing to be anonymous rather than famous and to have more time to herself. The princess has a magic mouse that she confides in, who in turn tells the castle wizard of her wishes. The wizard would also like to be able to disappear from time to time and creates a magic mask that allows himself, the princess and her mouse to appear to be ordinary villagers. The music is smooth, poignant and very dreamy.
Movement 3: The Masquerade Ball (featuring Sophia Agranovich on piano):
In the third movement, the princess receives the mask that allows her to achieve her dream. Sophia Agranovich’s joyful performance in a lively waltz-time expresses euphoria and absolute delight! Both masterful and fun, it’s a great performance!
Movement 4: Freedom
In the fourth movement, the princess, wizard and mouse escape to have fun in the countryside - until her father, the king, returns. The king must have joined in the fun because the piece stays carefree from start to finish, twirling and dancing with total abandon.
Symphonina No. 3 (Four Days in the Life of the Princess) is a charming musical fairy tale for “kids” of any age. It is available to stream or download from Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes, and is also on many streaming platforms including Spotify and Pandora. Very highly recommended!
