Review by Kathy Parsons
Bloom is the tenth album from pianist/composer Gina Leneé and is likely her most personal and most expressive album to date. Recorded, engineered and mastered at Joe Bongiorno’s Piano Haven Studio on his incredible Shigeru Kawai piano, the ten original piano solos are stunning in their beauty and heartfelt emotion. Quoting the back cover of the album:

“‘Bloom’ is a journey through surrender, resilience, and the quiet courage it takes to rise again. These songs are an invitation to trust the unfolding, to soften into hope, and to discover that even after the longest winter, the heart still remembers how to bloom.”

What is most impressive about this album is the depth of emotion that is expressed in the music. There are no flashy fireworks on the piano keys, and none are needed to get the point across from one soul to another. It’s an amazing listening experience with full attention, but the music can also slip into the background for a peaceful and soothing ambiance while meditating, studying, and many other quiet activities. I honestly think this will be one of my top favorite albums for 2026!

Bloom begins with “Mountain,” a symbol of those experiences in life that seem impossible to overcome until, moving step by step, the “summit” comes into view. “Take This From Me” is something of a wordless prayer for relief from the burden of pain. Simple yet deeply felt, each note is a gentle cry for help. The title track is “a triumphant overture of restoration,” expressing strength, healing and a growing sense of optimism. “A Moment After Midnight” has a very quiet, hushed quality that feels very much like the stillness of the middle of the night when our deepest thoughts often occur. “How Far You’ve Come” expresses encouragement to grow from the difficult experiences of life and to keep moving forward. Deeply reflective and introspective, “Cobalt Blue” refers to the vastness of the sky as well as the the ocean “where sorrow stretches endlessly before transforming into strength.” “Good Things” finds gratitude and optimism gradually returning, and the second half of the piece is almost joyous - very uplifting! “Seasons in Stillness” ponders how the soul needs quiet peacefulness to heal and “bloom” again when the time is right. “My Offering” is “a whispered prayer of surrender and gratitude, lifted with open hands and a trusting heart” - graceful, warm and deeply heartfelt. The album closes with “The Joy in You,” a quiet celebration of overcoming a very dark and difficult time in life and finding the light within again.

Bloom is a great album from the first note to the last! CDs can be ordered on Gina’s website. The album can be downloaded and streamed on Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes; and is available on many streaming platforms including Spotify and Pandora. VERY highly recommended! Oh, and Gina says she is planning to release sheet music, too! Can’t wait!
