“Angel” is the second single released by Ilka de Gast following her debut album, Ocean of Light, earlier this year (2025). This very gentle and ethereal piece features Ilka’s layered vocals as well as Tommy Graven’s acoustic guitar, Native American flute, and some subtle synth harmonies; Graven also engineered the recording.

The story behind the piece is almost as inspiring as the music itself. Ilka had spent several hours on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Bodega Bay, CA, enjoying the beautiful water views as well as the company of whales, seals and pelicans. She was on her way to her weekly visit with her friend, Nancy, who had been in hospice care for three months, when the melody and lyrics of “Angel” started to come to Ilka. Nancy passed away peacefully that night, but the next day, when Ilka was out walking, she connected to her dear friend’s spirit who encouraged her to finish composing this song. What a gift!
