Review by Kathy Parsons
"A Thin Place" is a beautiful duet single featuring pianist/composer Joey Curtin and her daughter-in-law, violinist Joy Vucekovich. (As a short introduction, Joy Vucekovich-Curtin has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Civic Orchestra and string ensembles with Yo-Yo Ma.) A "thin place" is a Celtic term for a place on earth where you feel the nearness of Heaven. Joey Curtin composed and recorded the piano part for the piece six years ago when her Irish father-in-law was in hospice "waiting to go to Heaven." Last winter, Joey wrote the violin part for Joy, and Joey's son, David, recorded her. Joey added some Celtic synth sounds and then sent the files to her engineer, Robert Rebeck, for mixing and mastering. So, the piano was recorded in Kansas City six years ago, the synth was recorded near Seattle, the violin in Chicago, and the mixing and mastering in Kansas City! The recording sounds very convincingly like they were all in the same room!

"A Thin Place" beautifully expresses a profound sense of peace and serenity - exactly as the title is described. Warmth and tranquility flow from every note, providing a brief but wonderful escape from the stresses of life. It is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites including Spotify. You can also hear a sampling on JoeyCurtin.com. Highly recommended!
