After a two-year absence from recording new material, pianist/composer Matt Johnson is back with a lively new single called "Cinnamon Lizards" - an intriguing title for a very warm and upbeat piece! It starts out very gently with a piano and keyboard intro that suggests early-morning mists and the profound quiet of the start of a new day. As the sun rises, the piece places a muted trumpet in the lead with upbeat Latin rhythms and percussion along with piano, acoustic bass, strings and synth pads. For such a short little piece (2 1/2 minutes), it packs a lot of musical sunshine sure to brighten your day. Welcome back, Matt! We missed you!
"Cinnamon Lizards" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes, and streaming platforms including Pandora and Spotify. There is also a really great video for this piece on You Tube!
Sheet music for the piece is available from Matt's website as well as SheetMusicPlus.com and SheetMusicDirect.com. There are two versions of the sheet music. One is the "official" version, which matches the recording more closely, is more advanced and covers seven pages. The other is from the John D. Wattson Series and is much shorter (four pages with a larger font) and easier. Both are in the key of G Major (1 sharp) and both are a lot of fun to play. Recommended!
