Review by Kathy Parsons
“Dada” is a charming new single from pianist/composer Matt Johnson. Composed in 1991 to celebrate his son’s first word, the piece has a “Celtgrass” (Celtic/Bluegrass Fusion) feeling and was performed by a bluegrass quartet playing tin whistle (Ilya Efimov), fiddle (Katie Glassman), mandola (Dennis Burns) and upright bass (Eric Thorin). In composing the piece, Matt used the melodic notes “D-A-D-A” and the “official” music video features old family videos that showcase some special moments with Matt and his three boys. It’s a light-hearted and very touching project that can be thoroughly enjoyed in just over 1 1/2 minutes - a little musical sunshine to brighten your day!
“Dada” is available to stream and/or download on Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes as well as on many streaming platforms including Spotify, Pandora and YouTube. Sheet music for “Dada” is available in several formats: solo piano, piano duet, piano trio, and ensemble (with open instrumentation for C, Bb and Eb instrumental parts).
