Review by Kathy Parsons
"Phonic" is multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer Michael Whalen's piece for the myndstream Summer Song Flight collection. The collection also includes one piece each from Carl Borden, Chris Haugen, Eamonn Karran, Michelle Qureshi and Ryan Judd - a very impressive project highlighting some of the artists on the myndstream label!

To say that Michael Whalen has had an illustrious music career is a huge understatement. A two-time Emmy® Award-winning composer and music supervisor (with 8 nominations), Michael has worked in advertising, television, film and video games for over 30 years. He has released 34 solo and soundtrack recordings and has produced and executive-produced more than 100 recordings for other artists. From solo piano to electronic, from ambient to jazz, Michael can do it all - and do it all well!

Those who are familiar with Michael Whalen's 2021 release, Future Shock, will recognize some of the sounds from that music in "Phonic." Those only familiar with his piano music are in for a happy surprise! Bright, energetic and very electronic, this is the most upbeat and rhythmic piece in the collection. Michael describes it: “After the reception of my album Sacred Spaces in 2020, I have been exploring a new sonic vocabulary and a new approach to my music. ‘Phonic’ is the first song where this new musical language has come together. I am so excited to share this with you all..."

"Phonic" is available on its own or as part of the myndstream Summer Flight collection from myndstream, Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes, Spotify and other sites. I highly recommend both!
