Review by Kathy Parsons
“Surrender” is a fully orchestrated arrangement of an original piano solo by Pam Asberry that appears on her 2019 album, The Presence of Wonder. Orchestrated by Deborah Offenhauser with Pam’s piano featured prominently throughout, this beautiful arrangement is being released as a single. The music ranges from very strong and powerful to quieter and more reflective. Pam explains the dichotomy: “The word ‘surrender’ is most often associated with weakness and failure. And while there are times when it is appropriate or necessary to fight the status quo with every ounce of strength we possess, often we have more to gain by simply accepting what is…. ‘Surrender’ is a musical portrayal of the feelings and emotions that accompany the act of surrender: from resistance and struggle to gratitude in the moment, an empowering choice that leads to peace and serenity.” That’s a lot to pack into a six-minute piece, and Pam does it so well!

A longtime piano teacher and music educator, Pam Asberry holds a Master of Music degree and has had extensive experience as an adjudicator, performer, speaker, author and arranger. She has released five solo piano albums to date, with a new one coming this spring. She has been described as “one of the most promising solo piano artists in New Age music today” by BT Fasmer of New Age Music Reviews. Enlightened Piano Radio named Pam “Best New Artist 2018” and her Thankful Heart, Joyful Mind album was named “Best Holiday Album 2019.”

“Surrender (Orchestrated Version)” is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes, and streaming sites such as Spotify. Don’t miss it!
