Review by Kathy Parsons
With Love, Volume 1 is a collection of twelve of Silvard’s favorite love songs. Nine of the songs are solo piano, and the other three are orchestrated, mostly with strings. The arrangements are lovely, and Silvard’s playing style brings out the melodies of these standards without overly embellishing them. I know there is a big market for these kinds of collections, but, as a piano teacher, I get really tired of a lot of these old workhorses. I love Silvard’s original work, and these arrangements are solid and heartfelt. They are in an easy-listening style that is relaxed and comfortable, and I’m sure most non-piano teachers who like these songs will love this album. Silvard’s stylings are very sincere and warm, and I especially like his renditions of “If” by David Gates, “Over the Rainbow,” and Enya’s “Watermark.” Other titles include “The Rose,” “Endless Love,” “Mona Lisa,” “Love Story Theme,” and “Somewhere in Time.” It is available from silvard.com.
