Review by Kathy Parsons
Tim Neumark’s single, “Fum Fum Fum,” is an orchestral arrangement of the traditional Catalan carol. Tim is best-known as a pianist/composer, but this single does not include piano at all. The lead violinist and several of the other instrumentalists are studio musicians, making the sound quality of the recording very natural and alive. Doug Hammer mixed and mastered the piece, filling in sampled instruments where they were needed for a fuller, more symphonic sound. Tim mentioned that these were all socially-distanced studio musicians from all over the world - very much in the spirit of the holidays this year!

Tim first heard “Fum Fum Fum” on his local classical radio station in 2015. The arrangement he heard was for choir, but he could imagine it as a piece for violin and orchestra. Once he cleared some time to work on his arrangement, it came together quickly. In addition to the wonderful violin lead, cello, clarinet and flute have short solos in this lively and joyous arrangement. This is the first ensemble piece that Tim arranged from start to finish, and I can’t wait to hear what he does next - even without a piano!

“Fum Fum Fum” is available digitally from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and Spotify, and the sheet music is also available from timneumark.com.
