Review by Kathy Parsons
Waiting For Today is a quiet guitar album composed, performed and produced by Victor Towle. Based in Colorado, Towle is passionate about using music as an important part of Yoga and Meditative practices. Both calming and soothing, the nine original tracks are mostly solo acoustic guitar, but some also feature guitar synth and/or electric guitar. Towle wrote much of the album while sitting with what he calls “the challenging landscape of today,” allowing that concept to shape the pace of the music. Instead of reflecting on the fears and tensions of our current world situation, the music feels hopeful while expressing the idea of an ever-present light on the horizon and coaxing listeners into a deeper, more relaxed state of well-being. In addition to his music, Towle is a Clinical Care Manager for rehabilitation as well as a Yoga and Mindful Meditation teacher.

Waiting For Today begins with the title track, a warm and gently melodic piece that includes some quiet (synth) instrumentation behind the acoustic guitar and setting the mood for the album. “Coffee In Tangier” is a bit darker and more mysterious as well as very easy to get lost in - a favorite! “Trying To Explain” expresses a variety of emotions with acoustic and electric guitars as well as guitar synth. The melody is strong enough to support lyrics although none are needed to get the point across! While staying warm and mellow, “Brisk Golden Walk” could easily be about being out and about in the early morning or as the sun prepares to set for the night - or an energetic stroll in Golden, CO! Both light-hearted and upbeat, it’s bound to bring a smile! “All That I Have Left” evokes feelings of bittersweet reflection, fading out at the end. With its intriguing title, “Mellow Magic” sounds like a band with acoustic and electric guitars as well as guitar synth providing strings, horns and other instrumentation to tell help tell its expressive story. “Lingering In The Long Shadows” returns to a more reflective mood with a repeating motif and gentle background instrumentation. “Wondering Home” is another intriguing title. The simple but heartfelt acoustic guitar melody has some background synth instrumentation for tonal colors and contrast, staying very open and reflective throughout. The electric guitar near the end adds some very interesting textures. “Soft Furnishings” brings the album to a close with warmth, hope and gentle reassurance.
