Review by Kathy Parsons
The “easy piano” version of David Lanz’s immensely popular 1994 songbook is finally here! With bigger print, fewer chords, easier key signatures, and more fingering, pianists of modest playing skills can now play David Lanz’s wonderful arrangements of favorite songs of the season as well as the seven short improvisations that are placed between the songs on the CD of the same name. Despite the simplification of the pieces, the sound is full and rich, keeping the spirit of the originals intact. Several of the arrangements are also shortened. More advanced players might want to have a copy of this book for last-minute requests to play during the holiday season - it is not obvious that the music is simplified. There are a few places in the music where ledger lines need to be read, but players who do not readily recognize those notes can always pencil in what they are. I’ve been teaching from the older version of this book for a lot of years, and I still had a lot of fun with the easy piano version. Very highly recommended! It is available from davidlanz.com, sheetmusicplus.com, amazon.com, and most other sheet music outlets.
