“December Ayre” is the sheet music for David Lanz’s 2025 single, transcribed note-for-note by John Zechiel and proof-read by me. It is part of an upcoming solo piano album by David Lanz, which is very good news! Gentle and bittersweet, the piece reflects on the coming of winter and perhaps the difficult emotions many people experience during the holidays. It is a very beautiful piece that invites the pianist to be expressive with the deep feelings that run throughout the piece. It would also be an excellent teaching and/or recital piece for piano students at an intermediate level and above.

One of David’s easier pieces to play, “December Ayre” is in the key of A minor (no sharps or flats) and is four pages long. There are a few octaves, but no chords, so pianists with smaller hands will have no problem with this one. Very highly recommended!
