Piano Book 2: When Shadows Talk is the companion sheet music book for Fiona Joy Hawkins’ 2025 album with the same title. All twelve pieces from the album are included. The book also includes seven pages of photos and Fiona’s words about what inspired the album overall as well as each piece - a very handy reference for understanding the pieces and playing them expressively. There are full-color photos of Fiona on the front and back covers and inside both covers. The books are spiral-bound and printed on a fairly heavy bright white paper stock that should stand up well to lots of page turns! It’s a beautiful book and looks great on my shiny black piano! And what’s inside is even better!

I proof-read all but two of the pieces in the book, and they match the recordings as closely as possible. Somewhere along the line a few things got changed, but I don’t think those will cause much confusion or lessen your playing enjoyment in any way. Most of the pieces are at an upper-intermediate to early-advanced playing level. They are all marked with the metronome settings and pedaling is marked throughout. There are no reaches of more than an octave, so pianists with smaller hands shouldn’t have any issues. The two pieces I didn’t proof (“The Lost Ballerina” and “The Journey”) have a lot of leger lines, so you might want to keep a pencil handy and mark some of those if they give you trouble. (The piano teacher in me keeps sneaking in here!) This is a lovely book and should give you many hours of playing enjoyment!
