Review by Kathy Parsons
Solo Piano for Peace is the companion songbook to Louis Landon’s 2009 CD release by the same name. Beautiful from cover to cover, the book is printed on heavy paper stock that will last for many years, and is spiral-bound for easier playing. The music from Solo Piano For Peace is less complicated than Landon’s previous releases, and the music in this songbook is much easier to sight-read, count, and play than his two earlier books. All thirteen songs from the CD were transcribed by Rebecca Oswald (one of the best!), including Landon’s arrangement of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” The music is melodic, emotional, and very beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing the book from cover to cover. The notes are crisp and clean, and the sheet music is roomy and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book to pianists who are playing at upper intermediate and early advanced levels - on a par with David Lanz’s and Suzanne Ciani’s sheet music. Louis Landon’s songbooks are available from louislandon.com.
