Philip Wesley’s
Solo Piano Collection, Volume 2 is a sheet music compilation with pieces from four of Wesley’s recordings. There are three pieces each from
Finding Solace and
In a Lifetime, two from
Comfort and Joy, and four from
Dark Night of the Soul. The printed books have full-color covers, front and back, and are spiral-bound - always a huge plus! The music is printed on a bright white medium-weight paper stock, and the notation is clear and roomy. Most of the pieces have metronome settings and suggested pedaling, but none of them have phrasing (it’s a common practice to leave the phrasing off these days, but it might be important to some piano teachers that the phrasing be marked.) The book also includes a short bio about Philip Wesley and his discography. It’s a very enjoyable book to play! Some of the pieces are fairly lengthy, and there are quite a few places where I would have suggested that 8va or 8vb be used instead of a multitude of leger lines, but keeping a pencil close to the piano will allow you to mark what those notes are. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down and playing through this book and whole-heartedly recommend it. Philip Wesley’s sheet music books and downloads are available exclusively from
