The Heal of the Hand / Songs of the Spirit songbook is a new (2021) sheet music compilation of all twenty-four pieces from pianist/composer Robin Spielberg's 1993 debut album, Heal of the Hand, and her second album of original piano solos, Songs of the Spirit (1996). Robin's first sheet music book was a collection of seven of the eleven pieces from Heal of the Hand. The companion songbook for Songs of the Spirit had all but three of the pieces from the album. Her 2006 A Collection of Piano Solos, Vol. 2 songbook included two of the missing pieces from each of the previous songbooks, but "Ireland" was still not available until 2011. Now all of the music from both albums resides in one book - a treasure trove to be sure! These are all of the original transcriptions, as they appeared in the earlier songbooks - no edits or changes.

The printed songbooks are spiral-bound (yea!!!) and printed on a medium-weight cream-colored paper. I have used a lot of Robin's sheet music with my advancing piano students, so my books got pretty beat up. It's so nice to have fresh copies and I have had so much fun playing through the book to refresh my memory of some of these older pieces.

A couple of things to note: Robin's previous transcriber preferred using leger lines to the 8va and 8vb signs, so you might want to have a pencil handy to mark some of the really "tall" notes. Some of the pieces have metronome settings and phrasing and some don't, so not all of these pieces are as consistent as Robin's more recent sheet music. If you are planning to play this music on a keyboard with fewer than eighty-eight keys, some adjustments will need to be made to some of the pieces because some venture very high and low on the keyboard. Those are small issues compared to the pleasure of having all of this music in one beautiful book.
