Ultimate Trivia, Volume 1
Donna Hoke
2019 / Rockridge Press
Review by Kathy Parsons
I have been collecting music-based trivia for several decades and am always looking for new sources. Ultimate Trivia, Volume 1 by Donna Hoke is a versatile book that can be used in many ways. The introductory section (2 pages) lists suggestions for how the book can be used individually and in groups. Obviously, a single user can go through and use the book as a series of quizzes on a variety of subjects (hopefully writing answers on a separate sheet of paper so another user can enjoy the fun later on!). All of the answers are in the back of the book, color-coded to match the color of the chapter the questions come from. Most of the quizzes are multiple choice, but there are also some lists to put things in order, some true/false questions, and a few fill-ins. The four categories are “U.S. and World History,” “Arts and Literature,” Food and Drink” and “Animals and Nature” - pretty wide-ranging! Each section has sub-categories, which are also titled. It’s a very well-thought-out collection and a lot of fun to read. I didn’t try playing trivia games with other people, but I quizzed myself in most of the sections and enjoyed the time very much. I’m looking forward to Volume 2!
I was furnished a review copy of the paperback book by the publisher.
