Jimi Hendrix: A Life From Beginning to End
Hourly History
2019 / Hourly History
Review by Kathy Parsons
I have become a big fan of Hourly History’s books and have read and reviewed quite a few of them. It seems that the biggest criticism of this series of short bios is that they are incomplete or don’t go into enough depth. Considering that the books are intended to be read in about an hour, I think the various authors of these books cover a lot of territory and cover it well. In this Hendrix bio, quite a bit of the book is devoted to his childhood and adolescence, but the material is fascinating and the ups and downs of Jimi’s young life make it easier to understand him as an adult. That he had such a passion and gift for music gave his difficult early life more meaning, but the pressures and temptations of stardom also led to his destruction at the early age of 27. I saw Jimi Hendrix in concert once and remember his magic and charisma well. I really enjoyed learning more about his life, as short as it was.
