Review by Kathy Parsons
“A Handful of Memories” is the first single released from pianist/composer Annie Locke’s upcoming solo piano album. Many pieces of music are born when composers are improvising, but after finding that the energy of a first improvisation can be difficult to improve upon or replicate when writing it down or refining the first take, Locke is including several original improvisations on her new album, including this beautiful piece. It is an interesting aside that Locke initially overlooked this piece in the course of recording a large number of improvisations. Fortunately for all of us, she found it during the 2018 holidays and has included it on the album. Whew!

“A Handful of Memories” is has a lovely flowing, dreamy quality that is both soothing and relaxing. These are definitely reflections on happy memories, although there are also feelings of longing and nostalgia interwoven with the sweet warmth of the music. It’s a very promising introduction to Annie’s next album - I can’t wait!

“A Handful of Memories” is available as a download only from www.AnnieLocke.com, Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby.
