Review by Kathy Parsons
"Ithaca" is the second single from Cheryl B. Engelhardt's upcoming full-length album, A Seeker's Slumber, which will be released later this year (2021). "Ithaca" is a piano/vocal/ synthesizer track without lyrics that explores the healing powers of vocal chant meditation. Cheryl describes "Ithaca" as "a heart chakra-centering track that makes you feel like you have woken up again." The vocals have a somewhat melodic structure while the piano and synth are ambient - a very interesting and effective combination. "Ithaca" begins with a quiet piano pattern and the sound of breathing. As the piece moves forward, more layers of sound are added - a droning synth background, a single voice and the piano, adding more voices and instrumentation as it unfolds. Even as it becomes more layered, "Ithaca" is never "busy" and the additional sounds never distract from the purpose of relaxation or centering.

Cheryl B. Engelhardt's previous album, Luminary (2020), was named "Best New Age Album of 2020" by New Age Music Guide and in April 2021, Muzique Magazine named Cheryl a "female artist ready to break out in 2021." If "Ithaca" is any indication (and I'm sure it is!), more honors from the music industry could be on their way.

"Ithaca" is available from Amazon, Apple/iTunes, Spotify and other online retailers.
