The Beauty of You is a three-piece solo piano EP by Doug Hammer that celebrates his wife and their long relationship as well as “the beauty that is us.” Quoting the album’s promo material:

“Recorded during turbulent times, this collection of 3 intimate piano pieces offers a moment of solace and is a reminder of the beauty of who we are.”

Warm, open-hearted and very sincere, these three pieces once again make it obvious how and why music can say so much more than words - especially in the hands of someone as capable and expressive as Doug Hammer. I started reviewing Doug’s recordings and songbooks back in 2007 and he has been one of my favorite artists ever since.

The album begins with "You and I," an earnest love song expressed simply and very sincerely. The depth of emotion in this piece is amazing and shows once again why Doug Hammer and his music are so highly regarded all over the world. “The Light In Your Eyes” begins at the high end of the piano keyboard with a pattern that repeats throughout the piece, moving around the keyboard with variations that range from quiet and thoughtful to very “big” and passionate, ending with a softer closing. Love it! The third track, the title track, is a gently heartfelt love song-without-words that says so much. It’s not a flashy piece, but each note seems to come from the heart, expressing deep emotion and tenderness - very beautifully done!
