Review by Michael Debbage
It is hard for an artist to compete with an outstanding trilogy of albums in the form of Sacred River, Lotus Land and Sanctuary released from 2006 through 2009. So rather than compete with the aforementioned, in 2011 Gandalf released the much more experiment Earthsong & Stardance. Though impressive and original at the same time, Earthsong & Stardance could not compete with his landmark trilogy. So what next? Gandalf explores a somewhat middle ground focusing on a more contemplative recording yet still holding on to a few experimental moments experienced on his last recording. The latter is best seen courtesy of the rhythmic “Reaching For The Sky” and to a lesser extent “Between Ebb And Flow”. Otherwise, Dreamweaver is for the lack of a better phrase dreamy and wistful resulting in yet another impressive album to add to the lengthy recording portfolio of this pioneering New Age multi instrumental artist.
