“Hymn” is a solo piano improvisation single by Mario Mattia. Not tied to any specific faith or religion, the piece is a wordless meditation on stillness, gratitude and hope. At 6 1/2 minutes, the music has time to evolve with grace, hinting at American gospel music here and there, freely moving to where the music leads.

Quoting Mario Mattia: “Created entirely in the moment, it unfolds through spacious harmonies, a quiet singing melodic voice, and subtle echoes of American hymnody and pastoral landscape….’Hymn’ is another exploration of what can emerge when nothing has been composed in advance and the music is allowed to discover its own direction.”

The YouTube video for “Hymn” includes a series of graceful and very peaceful images that suit the music beautifully. “Hymn” is also available to download and stream on Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes as well as on many streaming platforms including Spotify and Pandora. It’s a hopeful and very refreshing listening experience!
