Review by Kathy Parsons
"My Immortal" is Matias Bacoñsky's instrumental cover version of Evanescence's 2003 hit, and what a beautiful arrangement it is! Piano, orchestration and wordless choral voices combine to give the song a brand new sound that I really like. (This single is not to be confused with Matias' own composition, "The Immortal," which was released as a single in 2019 and 2020. I'm sure there is a tie-in somewhere, though, as Matias lists Amy Lee of Evanescence as one of the primary influences on his music.) Poignant and deeply emotional, the symphonic sweep of Matias' arrangement gives it a very visual, cinematic feeling, much like the soundtrack for a dramatic film.

Matias Bacoñsky is a young pianist/composer from Argentina that I have been reviewing since his 2016 album, Life and Death, which was released when he was just 21. Matias has released two other albums since then, When the World Ends (2018) and the award-winning Epochal (2021), that tell a continuing story about a man who survives the end of the world and then tries to find other survivors. It's an amazing series! He has also released several other singles. Great stuff!!!

"My Immortal" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites including Spotify.
