Review by Kathy Parsons
"Heart vs. Mind" is the second single from Matias Bacoñsky's upcoming (January 2025) album, New World. The album is the third in a series that began in 2018 with When The World Ends followed by Epochal in 2021. Essentially, the first album was about a man preparing for the world to end, and in the second one, the man has survived and is searching for other survivors. By the end of that album, the man has found his wife, also a survivor, and has reunited with her. "Heart vs. Mind" is told from the perspective of the wife who is facing an impossible decision. A major organization has decided to destroy human life except for a few individuals who are chosen for their ability to rebuild and inhabit a new civilization. The woman is among the chosen, but the rule is that no family members are eligible. She is developing a vaccine that will help people withstand the toxic air that has resulted from the devastation and is told to administer it to only the "chosen" ones, meaning that her husband and son will die.

Not surprisingly, the music for "Heart vs. Mind" is powerful and emotional, but it isn't without strong feelings of hope as well. Piano with huge, cinematic orchestrations and choral voices drive the music and tell the story in a way that only music can. Having heard and reviewed the first two singles from New World, I can't wait for the full album!

"Heart vs. Mind" will be available from Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes as well as many streaming platforms including Pandora and Spotify. Links will be added as they become available. Very highly recommended!
