Review by Kathy Parsons
“Surrender” is a lightly orchestrated piano single by pianist/composer Matt Johnson. Passionate, dramatic and compelling, it’s a beautiful preview of new music to come. Johnson released his first album in 1985 and has worked on a wide variety of musical projects since then as well as maintaining an active teaching studio. His experience with many genres and styles of music goes a long way toward giving him a unique and distinctive musical voice.

“Surrender” begins with a long, low rumble before the piano enters. The piano remains in the lead throughout the piece, but synth instrumentation and atmospheric sounds add tonal colors and depth. On the bittersweet and melancholy side, it’s a very easy piece to get lost in.

“Surrender” is available from Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby, but Matt Johnson offers it as a free download from his own site. Check it out!
