Review by Kathy Parsons
Misha V. Stefanuk has some incredibly impressive credentials in his Russian musical training and international awards, so I’m amazed that Piano Romance is so uninteresting. The music is beautiful, but the pieces have a sameness about them that I found to be frustrating. The compositions are for solo piano and piano with low-key synth accompaniment. The liner notes state that the pieces were “composed to create a very relaxed feeling, the background for a Romantic evening together.” So, by intention, this is supposed to be background music, and is supposed to sustain a mood, and it certainly does that. It is also a great cure for insomnia. I listened to Piano Romance five or six times, and found none of the tracks caught my attention, so if you are looking for a CD that is completely unobtrusive, this could be your ticket! It is available from mp3.com/stefanuk.
