Review by Kathy Parsons
"28th Street" is the latest in an ongoing series of single releases by Pete Calandra and Straight Up. The instrumentation of the "band" varies quite a bit from single to single, and ranges in style from smooth jazz to livelier and more upbeat. "28th Street" is somewhere in the middle of those styles/genres, expressing the freedom of improvisation with a smooth, easy-going sound that features piano, organ, trumpet, bass, drums and percussion. Defying categorization with his compositions, Pete is an incredibly prolific composer who has created music for television, films, and much more in addition to his own recordings. I love this quote, which pretty much says it all:

"I don't try to define anything because I find that, as a creative person, when you put something in a box, you limit the creative flow."

As usual, an enthusiastic both thumbs up to Pete Calandra and Straight Up! "28th Street" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites such as Spotify. Great stuff!
