Review by Kathy Parsons
"Cavelight" is a lighthearted and upbeat jazz single by Pete Calandra and Straight Up. Pete composed the music and plays the piano, joined by Dale Kleps on tenor sax, Stomu Takeishi on fretless bass and Howard Joines on drums. Upbeat and lively, this one will get your toes tapping and your head bobbing in no time - a bit of musical sunshine on a cold and rainy day on the Oregon Coast! (Thanks, Pete!) The joyful and free-flowing lead is mostly a duet for sax and piano with Pete taking an extended solo that I assume is improvised near the mid-point of the piece. The bass and drums are always very present as well, providing a groove that is both solid and free.

Another great single from Pete Calandra and Straight Up, "Cavelight" is available from Amazon, Apple/iTunes and streaming sites including Spotify.
