Review by Kathy Parsons
"At The 5 Spot" is part of an ongoing series of solo piano singles by Peter Calandra. From funky blues like this one to peaceful ambience, Peter always amazes with his versatility as well as his mastery of the piano. I don't think it's any secret that I really love piano blues, so it's a real treat when something like "At The 5 Spot" lands on my desk for review! The piece begins with a slow, easy introduction before bursting into some pianistic fireworks and settling into a groove that runs through the rest of the piece. I have no idea of how much of this piece is improvised and how much is composed, but the music expresses freedom and the joy of having a good time either alone at the piano or in a dimly-lit jazz club somewhere! Great stuff!!!

"At The 5 Spot" is available digitally from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites such as Spotify. Don't miss it!
