Review by Kathy Parsons
"Mardi Krewe" is a bluesy single in pianist/composer Peter Calandra's ongoing series of two solo piano singles released each month. This one is being released on March 1, 2022, which just happens to be Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) this year. A "krewe" is defined as any group or organization of revelers that band together to host a Mardi Gras ball, ride on a Mardi Gras parade float and/or participate in social events throughout the year. Each Mardi Gras Parade Krewe has a unique history and theme. Some have been around for decades, while others have been in existence for just a few years.

Mardi Gras and New Orleans are almost synonymous, but one of the other things New Orleans is famous for is its music - especially jazz and blues - and Peter Calandra has captured that magic in this great piece. It begins slowly and soulfully with some fancy finger-work up and down the piano keyboard, but the real fun starts at about the mid-point of the piece when he lets the good times roll with piano blues that is both playful and fun, and then winds down to the end. Peter Calandra is an amazing pianist/composer, and "Mardi Krewe" really proves my point!

"Mardi Krewe" is available to stream or download from Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes, and to stream from various sites including Spotify. Enjoy!
