Review by Kathy Parsons
"Morning Light" is a beautiful piece for piano and synthesizers composed and performed by Peter Calandra. This single and "The Highlands" (reviewed here 1/30/2023) also serve as a preview for a full album that Peter plans to release in July 2023. It is interesting to note that Peter created the artwork for both singles (and several others!) using his own stunning photography, making his releases even more personal.

As would be expected from the title, "Morning Light" is peaceful, warm and relaxing. The piano keeps the easy-going lead throughout the piece while the synths repeat an atmospheric ambient pattern that is both hypnotic and soothing. The piece begins as the synths gradually crescendo in, much like the colors of the sky slowly brightening at sunrise. As the piano enters, the synths soften, but continue to provide their "glow." The piano feels freely improvisational - relaxed and optimistic. As usual with Peter's music, it's impossible to put this piece into one genre - jazz, new age, and ambient all play into it, but it's simply great music from an outstanding artist. I can't wait to hear the full album in a few months!

"Morning Light" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes, and streaming sites including Spotify. Both thumbs up!
