Review by Kathy Parsons
"Willow Blues" is Peter Calandra's September 2024 "single of the month" and demonstrates once again what a great blues pianist he is. Inspired by the late jazz composer/pianist Carla Bley (1936-2023) and named for her home in Willow, New York, Peter played and recorded the piece after Carla passed away last year. Quoting Peter: "The tune (even tho it is a ballad) has shades of Gershwin, Keith Jarrett, Memphis Slim and Pete Johnson." Mostly slow and soulful, there are passages with some impressively intricate finger-work that Peter handles with ease. Extremely versatile as well as prolific, I always look forward to Peter's new releases and "Willow Blues" is a good example of why!

"Willow Blues" is available to stream or download from Amazon and Apple/iTunes and to stream on Pandora, Spotify and other platforms. Don't miss it!
