On Fire: Soundtrack for Solo Cello (single)

Review by Kathy Parsons
Tim Neumark's "On Fire: Soundtrack for Solo Cello" is the haunting 3-minute soundtrack for a short film by Andrew Broadhurst with the same title. The film itself is about domestic abuse and is under four minutes long. With only about eight lines of spoken dialog, the cello expresses the tragedy that is domestic abuse in ways that words never could. Until recently, Neumark has been known primarily as a pianist, but he has been exploring other instruments as well as orchestration the last few years and is taking his music in some very impressive new directions. Tim chose the cello for this music because: "I think it's the most human-sounding instrument, and the solo cello has a certain vulnerability that fits well with this film's theme." Soulfully performed by Spanish cellist Raúl Andueza, this is one of the most beautiful pieces Tim Neumark has composed to date. It is his second collaboration with Broadhurst, having also scored his 2017 short film, "Unfinished," which was a solo piano soundtrack.
The short film of "On Fire" will be released soon, as will the solo cello sheet music for the piece. The single is currently available from Apple Music/iTunes and Spotify. Very highly recommended!
