Review by Kathy Parsons
Painting the Sun is the companion songbook to David Lanz’s 2008 CD release by the same name. Along with exact transcriptions for all of the songs on the CD, the book includes stunning larger versions of the beautiful CD cover and the rose illustration from Lanz’s website, the liner notes from the CD, and the stories of the creation of and inspiration for each piece – also from Lanz’s website. Beautifully bound for ease of playing, this is one extra-special book! None of the music is very difficult to play, although there are some timing challenges here and there and “Hymn” has a lot of left hand chords with a reach of a tenth. Most players of an upper intermediate level should be able to master and thoroughly enjoy this book. It is available from most music stores as well as davidlanz.com, amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and sheetmusicplus, com. Very highly recommended!
