Review by Kathy Parsons
At least twenty years ago, I started proof-reading David Nevue's sheet music in exchange for permission to use his music with my piano students. For many years, I taught David's music more than that of any other composer. Why? Because students of all ages and backgrounds loved and could identify with the music - and as a full-time piano teacher, I never got tired of listening to students play it. I have worked closely with David and his sheet music over the years, and although I have retired from teaching piano lessons, I still love to proof-read his music. When David said he wanted to put together a book specifically for piano students, he asked me and a number of other piano teachers who use his music in their teaching repertoire to compile a list of the pieces students enjoy(ed) playing the most. The result is this wonderful collection, 20 Favorites Piano Students Love To Play. Keeping in mind that these pieces were for students, more fingering was added than is usually present in David's songbooks and sheet music, and suggestions were made for some additional playing suggestions that would be helpful. Otherwise, these pieces are the same as the original sheet music and are not simplified or altered. I can put my whole heart into recommending this sheet music collection and can tell you with all sincerity, that the joy my students have had in learning David's music often spurred them on to advance more quickly and to stay with lessons longer than they might have otherwise. It should be a no-brainer that students will spend more time practicing (and advancing!) if they are enjoying what they are working on, and it certainly worked for me as a teacher!

The songbooks are available with spiral-binding from David Nevue's website, and individual pieces can be downloaded there as well. Or you can order a non-spiral-bound book from Amazon. (I think the spiral-bound books are well worth the price difference!) The books also include rankings by playing level, notes by David, a forward by me(!), and a "David Nevue Fact Sheet." It's a great collection!
