The Overcome Solo Piano Songbook is the companion sheet music book for David Nevue's 2005 album by the same name. One of David's most popular albums, the book includes some of David's "classic" pieces such as the title track, "The Vigil," and "When the Hard Rains Come" as well as the hymns he arranged for the album. All sixteen of the pieces from the recording are included in the songbook. Most of these pieces have been available for download for a lot of years, but recently David had his earlier sheet music redone by Rebecca Oswald (I proofed it!) so that the formatting for all of his sheet music is consistent and any prior mistakes were corrected. It's really nice to have the music spiral-bound and between the covers of a book rather than loose sheets of paper that often fall off the piano or get mixed up with other loose sheets! (If you order the book from Amazon, it will not be spiral-bound, but their "perfect binding" is much better than it used to be!)

The songbook also includes a fact sheet about David and a forward that I wrote that explains why I taught David's music to my piano students more than that of any other composer for many years. The music itself ranges from an intermediate playing level to early-advanced, but most pieces are in the upper-intermediate range. A few of them have moderately challenging rhythms, but what a great way to teach the importance of counting the timing! There are no reaches of more than an octave, and all of the music is very expressive and fun to play. It's a great book for pianists of all ages and I highly recommend it!
