Review by Kathy Parsons
"October" is a solo piano arrangement of a classical guitar piece from David Rogers' 2012 solo acoustic guitar album, The Lone Wild Bird. The piece effectively describes several aspects of the month of October - a little spooky in places (Halloween), gentle breezes, a little slower pace as the year winds down, etc. It's a lovely piece on both piano and guitar, and the piano arrangement was also transcribed by David Rogers.

"October" is in the key of C and the sheet music is two pages plus a repeat. The tempo is marked as "Slow," and there are no reaches of more than an octave. It's a relaxed and expressive piece that invites the pianist to add his or her own interpretation. Timing is pretty straight-forward, although the last bar is in 18/32 time, which would be a good opportunity for piano teachers to explain to students what that means. I would say that pianists and piano students at an intermediate to upper-intermediate playing level would find this piece fairly easy to master, and it is also a good teaching piece.

The sheet music for "October" is available to download on SheetMusicPlus.com.
