The Winter Journey solo piano songbook is the companion sheet music collection to Scott D. Davis’ 2004 CD by the same name. Spiral-bound and printed on a sturdy bright-white paper stock, this is a Christmas collection designed for a long life and years of happy piano fingers. The eleven songs include three original compositions and Scott’s arrangements of eight traditional carols. One of the originals is written as a three-hand piano duet, but the melody part would also work for violin, flute or any other “C” instrument. I wouldn’t call any of the pieces easy and a couple are downright tricky, but some determination and practice will conquer any of the difficult sections. Upper-intermediate and early-advanced pianists will find much to enjoy in this book. Pedaling suggestions, fingering, metronome settings, and dynamics are all clearly marked. A few of the songs have hand stretches of more than an octave, but not many. Most of the timing is straight-forward and easy to understand. My own favorites in this collection are “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Coventry Carol,” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The book is available from www.InspiringPiano.com and Amazon. Recommended!!!
