Scott D. Davis
The
Winter Journey solo piano songbook is the companion sheet music collection to Scott D. Davis’ 2004 CD by the same name. Spiral-bound and printed on a sturdy bright-white paper stock, this is a Christmas collection designed for a long life and years of happy piano fingers. The eleven songs include three original compositions and Scott’s arrangements of eight traditional carols. One of the originals is written as a three-hand piano duet, but the melody part would also work for violin, flute or any other “C” instrument. I wouldn’t call any of the pieces easy and a couple are downright tricky, but some determination and practice will conquer any of the difficult sections. Upper-intermediate and early-advanced pianists will find much to enjoy in this book. Pedaling suggestions, fingering, metronome settings, and dynamics are all clearly marked. A few of the songs have hand stretches of more than an octave, but not many. Most of the timing is straight-forward and easy to understand. My own favorites in this collection are “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Coventry Carol,” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The book is available from
