Review by Kathy Parsons
Daughter of Ra is the second of an exciting three-volume series called Blood of Ra. Book 2 picks up where the award-winning Heir of Ra left off, but develops in the direction of a fantasy novel in addition to the fast-paced mystery/adventure that was Book 1. The series is classified as young adult historical fiction, but unless you crave a lot of profanity, sex and graphic violence, I think readers of any age (teen and up) would find this well-written and very intense book to be thoroughly enjoyable. I have had a difficult time putting either volume down and can’t wait for Book 3 - and I’m far from being a young adult!

I really appreciate that all of the female characters are strong, intelligent and every bit as capable as their male counterparts. Even the “bad guys” are credited with intelligence, making them even scarier for me. It is intriguing that we still don’t know for sure whether several of the main characters are “good guys” or “bad guys,” keeping the reader a little off-balance and unable to guess what happens next - a big part of what makes these books so addicting!

If you haven’t read either book, be sure to read Heir of Ra first or you won’t be able to follow Daughter of Ra. I very highly recommend them both!
