“Bird in Flight” is the third single from classical crossover pianist/composer Amy Skjei’s upcoming solo piano album, Piano Poems, and like “With Honor” and “Summer Nocturne,” it’s a soulful beauty. Having spent a great deal of time watching the effortless flight of many different kinds of birds, it’s very easy to visualize the freedom and grace of larger seabirds catching the various wind currents over the ocean as well the fluttering of tiny hummingbirds at a hedge full of blossoms or the freedom of gulls and crows as they soar through the air seemingly without any effort at all. The tempo changes freely and expressively throughout the piece, trailing off at the end - a beautiful portrait of nature at its best!
