“Summer Nocturne” is a beautiful solo piano single by American classical/crossover pianist/composer Amy Skjei (pronounced “Shay.”). The piece is also included on Amy’s upcoming album, Piano Poems, due to be released this fall. Other tracks from the album are being released as singles as well.

As you might already know, a “nocturne” is a “night song,” a genre made famous by Chopin and other composers from the Romantic Era (about 1820 to 1910). “Summer Nocturne” has a main theme that begins and ends the piece (including several variations) and a second theme in the middle. Amy’s expressive playing paints vivid pictures with sound and really makes the music come to life. Graceful and heartfelt, it’s a beautiful piece from start to finish and has me really looking forward to the rest of the album!
