Pete Calandra and Straight Up's "Resolution" single is a cover version of John Coltrane's jazz classic from his 1965 album, A Love Supreme. Instead of the sax and piano that were in the lead on the original, Pete plays melodica with tablas, keeping a compelling rhythm and ambient synth washes while creating a mysterious atmospheric effect. It's a fascinating update to an almost 60-year-old piece from an album widely considered one of the best ever recorded. I find it really interesting how the "cool" drums and synth washes contrast to the vibrant and energetic freedom of Calandra's melodica.

The music released by Pete Calandra and Straight Up is as varied as the music from Peter Calandra, the solo artist, but the exceptionally high quality never varies with either.
