Review by Kathy Parsons
“Circle of Lights” is a fascinating new single from Peter Calandra that will be included in his upcoming (2026) album titled The Stillness Between. As is often the case with Peter’s music, it’s impossible to put this piece into a single genre or category - it’s a little bit jazz, classical, pop, cinematic and simply a great piece of music from start to finish! Guests artists are Kathleen Nester on flute, Kathy Halvorson on oboe, and Ralph Farris on violin. Peter plays piano, keyboards, percussion and everything else including doing the mixing. He originally composed the piece in the summer of 1990 and only had a cassette mix of a sequenced demo to refer to. After transcribing the music and reworking quite a bit of it, he kept the main melody the same as the original.

“Circle of Lights” begins with a catchy rhythm before the strings enter, enhancing the rhythm. Piano and orchestral instruments bring in an infectious energy driven by the percussion. It’s a constantly-changing piece, but the way it evolves is very natural and organic. Love it!

“Circle of Lights” is available to stream or download on Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes, as well as on many streaming platforms including Spotify and Pandora. Very highly recommended!
