Review by Kathy Parsons
"Crimson Flames" is the tenth in a series of solo piano singles by Peter Calandra. Peter has been releasing two of these singles per month - on the 1st and the 15th - and I am finding them to be a real treat. Peter was already one of my favorite pianist/composers, with an extensive background in jazz as well as an impressive variety of other genres, and I really love that this series demonstrates his versatility as both a pianist and a composer. I guess if I had to categorize "Crimson Flames," I'd call it smooth jazz, but it really doesn't fit neatly into any box except perhaps beautiful, relaxing music. This isn't "wallpaper music," though - there is plenty of substance - too much to relegate to background music. This is music that is easy to get lost in - much like watching flames dancing gracefully in a fireplace. It's a wonderfully soothing and evocative piece and I give it my highest recommendation.

"Crimson Flames" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites like Spotify.
